Peace and loving thy neighbor.
I hate agreeing with this. Then again how can one really argue with the root of Bill Mahrs message. Can we call ourselves true Christians if we rally behind wars and revenge? Are we confident that our government exhaust all avenues of peace?
There are more Bible quotes in the New Testament about Peace and loving your neighboring than almost any other rule to live by. Jesus is pretty clear on his stance on revenge. He not only made Peter drop the sword and not strike back, but he healed the one who was trying to kill him.
Homo sexuality is not mentioned specifically by Jesus once in the New Testament. Yet how many more Christians are dedicating their efforts to trying to help Gay people recognize their sins than there is Christians in an uproar about our tyrant and quick to violence Government.
I think we are wrong to believe Jesus would come down to earth and be pleased with the United States. We have built a society of wealth, materialism and violence. Now I am not saying our Country itself is bad. We as a nation are the first country those in trouble turn to when disaster and trouble arises. Our foundations are built on some important core Christian principals as well.
In all actuality however we have not lived up to Jesus commands about loving our enemy and living in peace with our neighbors. In the last 200 years we have committed mass genocide against The American Indians and flat out stole their lands. We have supported violence and war when it meant making America as rich and secure financially as possible. We have provided weapons to some pretty evil people just to help our own best interest. America in general after Pearl Harbor has decided to explore peace with only those nations in which it benefited financially or politically. If you choose to disagree with me on this then first please explain to me why China out of all countries is not on our bad list. They enslave children, hold Tibet hostage, posses weapons of mass destruction and have the military power to match the United States twice.
I just think that Christians should always be supportive of trying to find peace and avoiding war as much as possible. And while Jesus would not be happy with 2011 years of killing, murder and war at the hands of his followers. I am also very confident he forgives us, Jesus understands we don’t know any better. In fact it was some of his last words he spoke on the cross.
On another note. This is my first post in a while due to the fact I am in the middle of an important project for work and also very busy with church and finding my calling in ministry. This has resulted in alot less time at the computer (THANK GOD). I will be back at it again more often very soon as my project is almost complete.
